Happy Birthday Campus Theatre!
How Green Was My Valley – Restoration Print!
John Ford (U.S. 1941) 118 min. 35MM. With Roddy McDowall, Walter Pidgeon, Maureen O’Hara.
Lewisburg’s cherished Campus Theatre opened on January 17th, 1941 and has been showing movies ever since! To celebrate their 75th birthday, Bucknell partners with The Campus Theatre Ltd to present one of John Ford’s most beloved films.
Arguably one of the most moving films of the studio era, Ford’s account of the dangerous life of a Welsh coal-mining family won five Oscars, including Best Picture, Director, Supporting Actor, Art Direction and Cinematography. Through the eyes of the youngest child of the Morgan family, we watch as his older brothers are split apart by economic hard times and labor strife, and his older sister sacrifices the mutual love she shares with a poor minister to enter a rich but loveless marriage. Added to the National Film Registry in 1990. Restored by 20th Century Fox, the Academy Film Archive, and UCLA Film and Television Archive with funding from the Film Foundation.
